The technique can be used to reduce a hook, create the illusion of a slimmer nose or even re-align an uneven nose. It is also gaining popularity amongst Asian communities who seek a larger noise or a more defined bridge. The 15-minute procedure, which we call injection rhinoplasty, involves small, strategic injections of a longer lasting, but temporary filler into the nose. Commonly we are asked to fix bumps, lift droopy tips, straighten crooked shapes, and lift flat bridges. See example of hooked nose correction here

 When working with an Asian facial structure the key is to lift the bridge but not change the ethnicity. Lifting the bridge brings the nose more into symmetry with the rest of the face and takes the focus away from the tip, making it look less rounded and ball-like. Also, having a bridge means glasses will rest on the nose itself rather than on the cheeks, which is often a common concern. The skin is prepared with a topical numbing cream or a local anaesthetic to the more sensitive tip area. Results are often built up slowly, over the course of a few visits.

Although injection rhinoplasty can alter noses to instant symmetry, there are limits to what a I can accomplish with just injections alone. It is impossible to make a large nose smaller without invasive surgery and bumpy noses can only be made to look smaller by making it straight and blending it into the rest of the face. Enhancing the bridge will make the tip look smaller, but not actually shrink it. The procedure is low-risk, although temporary bruising and redness to the injection site are possible and will resolve within a week.

Q. I have sagging skin over my eyelids which make me look tired all the time. I think it gives me headaches too – what can I do?

 A. Lose eyelid skin does have a tendency to make our eyes look heavy and tired. It can be caused through general aging, weight loss and sun damage. In severe cases, the loose skin can press onto the eyelid restricting vision and the sufferer may over-use their forehead muscles in an effort to open their eyes wider to try to improve vision. In turn this can cause headaches and deep forehead creases!

In severe cases the only effective treatment is to remove the offending skin (this is called a blepharoplasty). This is a simple day case procedure often carried out under light sedation, requiring little downtime or discomfort. A consultation is required to assess if this is an appropriate solution in your specific case. In cases where the skin is not obstructing vision and the client is seeking a fresher look, other possible treatments may include Thermage NXT® which uses heat to cause the skin to contract and tighten.

Blepharoplasty is one of my favourite treatments simply because it makes such a difference to your overall appearance; provide a fresher more relaxed and youthful look.
